Description

The CSIR has an internship opportunity for an Intern in the Geospatial Modelling and Analysis Research Group within the Next Generation Enterprises and Institutions Cluster. The purpose of the Internship is to provide graduates with an opportunity to gain practical work experience through research and development of competitive technologies and innovative products under the guidance of researchers and engineers within cross-functional teams. This position is based in Stellenbosch, Cape Town and will report to the Research Group Leader.

Responsibilities

Under supervision, the Intern will be required to:
Package solutions into a structured portfolio (use cases, value proposition, differentiators, evidence/case studies, and readiness/maturity)
Research priority sectors and produce concise briefs on trends, key players, competitors/alternatives, and where demand is emerging
Identify target organisations, map relevant decision maker roles, and compile verified public contact channels to enable outreach
Prepare client briefs and meeting packs, draft outreach messages, and track actions and next steps to keep engagements moving
Track leads, engagement status, documentation, and next actions to provide visibility of the opportunity pipeline and progress

Qualifications

A Bachelor of Commerce degree in management sciences;
Coursework or demonstrated interest in business analytics, and technology;
Research and synthesis skills: ability to find, validate, and summarise information into decision-ready briefs
Business writing: one-pagers, short reports, and presentation content aimed at professional audiences
Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint (structured tracking, basic analysis, clear slide storytelling)
Professional communication and stakeholder engagement (email etiquette, meeting discipline, follow-up rigour)
Organisation and execution: managing trackers, working to weekly targets, and reporting progress clearly
